My Review

I wasn't sure what to expect when I started reading A Different Kind of Pain. In the first few pages I felt tears threatening to fall. My heart broke for Luka and Susan. I wanted to cradle Susan and mend Luka's broken heart.

Susan has a fierce spirit about her. In the final days of her life she is determined not to leave her sweet husband without someone. She helps Luka choose her in-home nurse without letting on her plan. 

Luka isn't sure how to even begin preparing for Susan's death. He is clinging to her and unsure where to go from here. 

Melia held a special place in my heart upon first meeting her. She was full of sass and spunk. She brought life into Susan and Luka's home. She became apart of their family and stumbled into love with Luka.

On the brink of losing Susan will Luka find love and peace? I wept for Luka and I loved that this story focused more on Susan and Luka's journey. There is limited sex in this story. Instead you get a wonderful story of healing, hope, and moving forward. This is my absolute favorite Graystone story yet and I hope to see more like this from her. When you reach the end of A Different Kind of Pain you'll want to kiss your loved ones and gain a new appreciation for life.

Review:

I loved the bond between Crystal and Sylvia. The trust the two share is something most wish for. Each carries their own dark secret as a the story unfold their secrets come to light which tests the bond between them.

Doebereiner is a new author to me and I did enjoy this story. I just wish for more detail and less dialogue. The story had a strong premise but lacked depth. It felt like I was being told the story instead of experiencing the story. I hope to give Doebereiner another read in the future.

Bailey's Little Adventure is a story of exploration and trust. Bailey has grown comfortable in age playing as a teenager. Her husband and Daddy wants her to explore her submission more in her adult life. While he is happy in their marriage he knows that he needs to push Bailey to explore herself.

Bailey's Little Adventure is different in that you get to see how Bailey transforms as her Daddy pushes her into new boundaries and limits. Of course there is always a little mischief involved but nothing that a firm hand won't solve. I look forward to reading more from Graystone.

My Review:
I was glued to the pages of The Code of The West. I had to know what would happen to Jedda and if Wes would really stop at nothing to protect her. As I kept reading I laughed, cried, and rooted for Jedda. She runs away under the disguise of a 14 year old boy on the brink of becoming a man to provide for his family. She knows that she could be found out but it is a risk worth taking. Especially when her only other option is to marry the man that almost raped her.

Wes is furious when discovers that "Jed" is actually Jedda. He has a hard time being okay with the fact that he has been pushing her so hard. He falls for her quickly willing to stop at nothing to keep Cal from finding her.

I love reading Dawson's work. I know I'll be in for an adventure and on the edge of my seat. She has instilled a love of Western's in me and I can't wait to read more from her!

My Review:

I found it hard to stay with All Other Things. Bea and Tommy's relationship seems scattered and at times they are in different places. When comes to introducing Kieran into their life it seems to only scatter the plot more. The sex is hot, I just wish there would have been more communication between the characters and their thoughts.

My Review:

His Girl, His Rules was fantastic read and I enjoyed getting to know Glory and Gabriel. Gabriel hasn't allowed himself to feel for anyone since he lost his wife four years ago due to cancer. Since then he has been going through the motions until he sees the timid redhead enter the club.

Glory has no clue about the sex she writes. She writes purely from her fantasies not experience. She enters the club purely with though of research only .What she doesn't expect is Gabriel to sweep her up and introduce her into his life.

With some humor His Girl, His Rules kept me in from page one and I knew i would finish it in one sitting. I love William's work and can't wait to sink into her next story.

My Review:

Her Rock Hard Viking drew me with it's unusual premise. A man cursed to live out his days as an island. Carr has grown used to living alone. The island has become his pride and joy and he's found peace in the solitude of the island.

That is until Becca shows up. Looking for a plant that will help save her nephew the island is her last hope. What she doesn't expect is for the island to speak to her in more ways than one. She didn't go looking for love on the island but love found her.

Her Rock Hard Viking is my favorite in the series so far. I really enjoyed the unique concept and look forward to more of Tipton's work.

My Review:

I had goosebumps as I read Sweet Justice. Tess has Epilepsy but it hasn't been diagnosed as that officially. Her mother mysteriously disappeared and she never felt settled with the idea that she just ran off for a better life. She knows better than to believe that.

When she catches her step-father Dirk cleaning blood out of a house claiming to be an animal's castration gone wrong she can't fight that feeling that something has gone wrong. She tries to tell the police what she saw but they think she is misguided in believing that her step-father has killed again.

Determined to take justice into her own hands she sets a trap for a dangerous game of cat and mouse. Sweet Justice although short will capture you from page one and you'll finish in one sitting awaiting the climatic conclusion.

My Review:

The Officer's Little Rebel is a rags to riches sort of story. Imogen's step-father is an abusive man putting her out to any man willing. When Officer Royce comes to his inn to celebrate his home coming he becomes drunk. Believing Imogen to be the whore that her father states he ends up taking her virginity. As the good man he is, he decides to right his wrong and wed Imogen.

From the start Imogen is determined not to let Royce in. She will not trust him and will definitely not be marrying him. As she transforms into his little girl, she realizes that maybe he isn't like all other men.

Sinclair has developed a knack for writing historical age play. She draws you in with a wonderful back story and a firm hand. Reading Sinclair's work has given me the chance to get into historical erotica because I know I will not be disappointed. The Officer's Little Rebel is nothing short of a great story. I loved watch Imogen grow and along the way Royce learning about himself as well.

Daisy has become smitten with Dr. James. She feels noticed for the first time in a long time often hiding behind her sisters shadows. When she is convinced that there is something Dr. James isn't telling her she puts her health at risk and follows him into wild and barely escapes death.

Ethan James isn't sure his spitfire will survive but he's determined to help nurse her back to health. To keep from putting the Indian's at risk and to explain Daisy's absence, Ethan does the only reasonable thing he can think of. Marry Daisy.

With Ethan's firm hand and Daisy's easy submission they are sure to learn more about themselves than ever before. Vale has a way of writing historical erotica that doesn't make the reader feel the drag that some historical novels have. I really enjoyed the joy ride I went on as Daisy discovered her need to submit to Ethan and Ethan's need to keep her safe at all costs.

Ranging from one line to full length, each story leaves a lingering impact that resonates long after the page is turned.

Review

I love how even though this is supposed to be a darker collection of stories it is has an underlying theme of hope and desperation. We journey into the deep minds of sorrow and loss. The stories leave you wanting more.

Kirpalani has a way with words that draw you in. I felt tears well up as I continued reading on. I started this unsure if I'd be able to finish reading it but the more I read the more I was drawn in. Each story ends somewhat abruptly but leaves a window open where these stories could be come their own.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this collection and would love to read more of Kirpalani's work.

I loved how Ethan and Violet's relationship evolved and watching them both journey down the rabbit hole. I will definitely be reading more of Devlin's work.

Written On The Apple Tree is full of mystery. One minute you feel like you understand completely what is going to happen but then you're thrown through a loop. The chemistry between Oliver and Kim is there but Kim is unsure why he seems so familiar.

I don't typically read suspense but this one drew me in. I felt like I was in someone's dream/nightmare and desperately needed to know what happened. Although a bit confusing it is a great read.

Fiona and Matt have been inseparable and happy. Their lives couldn't better until Travis comes back into Matt's life. Torn between choosing the man that once owned his heart and the woman that has won him over. Matt toys with the possibility of having both of them.

Overall, I enjoyed the story but it did feel rushed to me. I would have like more of the backstory between Matt and Travis. I did enjoy watching their relationship bloom and them overcoming their hardships.

Retribution took me on a ride unlike any other. Adam and Elle's story is completely unique and unexpected. I have been a long time follower of Knight's work and loved when she moved into dark suspense last year. Retribution is Knight's best book to date.

Adam is on a mission to get payback for his sister's death. For too long he has been planning out the best way to get vengeance. He wants Elle to feel the pain and suffering that his sister endured.

Elle knows she out of her league when she meets Adam. Something about his dark behavior draws her in and in their first meeting both of them know that they are in over their heads. 

I cannot say enough how wonderfully written this story is. It alternates between both points of view and allows us into mindset of both characters. I felt as if I was there in both of their heads and feeling their heartache.

I loved the uniqueness of this story and the beautiful bond that Mike and Darla form. It was realistic in that Darla questioned everything Mike did and her need to hesitate showed through even when she complied with her Daddy's wishes. The growth that Darla experiences from beginning to end is absolutely wonderful. With her Daddy's firm hand Darla is sure to change and blossom into her true self.

My Review: Rebecca is a five year old little girl. Worried about her mommy she is constantly asking where she is. Her erratic behavior has her step-father worried about her. Letting loose may be just what she needs to feel safe about coming forward.

Henry marries Molly with the promise of starting a family of their own. When Molly walks out on her family Henry has to learn to cope with Rebecca and learn all about her.

Even though this is a quick read it is a wonderful story. It shows how hard it is for young children to come forward as victims of abuse. It also shows how difficult it is for someone to have their spouse walk out on them. The only thing I would have liked is more from Rebecca's point of view. To know her feelings and emotions as well. I look forward to reading more of Youman's work.

Top Reads In 2015

I didn't accomplish as much reading as I would have liked but I definitely discovered some new authors!

Elsa Black was a new author to me and reading this brought me into the world of Eden and all it had to offer. I really enjoyed this and loved that I made a new friend out of it!

Ava Sinclair was another new author to me. This was my first time reading Historical Age play and i new I found an author that I could read her historical novels and be interested in it.

I had heard about Trent Evans and his writing style. I ended up reading this in one session and quickly discovered that I'd be a long term fan of Evans.

BJ Wane another first time author for me and I loved the chemistry and lay out of this story. It is definitely one of my favorites.

This was another story that touched my heart. Wane certainly knows how to make you feel emotions that you didn't think you could feel.

In 2015 Knight took to a darker writing style. It wasn't the usual BDSM romance. Instead there were darker elements and it made me love Knight even more. Then when she co-authored with Evans I knew I had to read it.

Dawson was another new author to me. I loved this story! Love, love, loved it! I am not big for Historical Romances but the way Dawson wrote this captured me from page one.

This was another one by Knight that completely roped me in. I love the journey and the characters. Definitely one I'll be rereading.

This was definitely one of my top reads. I couldn't put this down once I started reading this and the way Alleman wove the story just kept me interested from page one.

The Don's Daughter is my favorite out of the Bossman Series. I love that Renee Rose has a strong writing style and to be able to enter the Mafia world is an absolute blast!

I love Katherine Deane's writing style because it is such a sweet style of writing. 

I loved this by Morganna. It was humorous and realistic. Also another new author for me in 2015!
